Q&A
How long have you been modeling? Since the age of 13 years old, but professional modeling approx. 2 1/2 years.
Biggest highlight in your modeling career? When I was introduced with Metal Mulisha and Rockstar Energy Drink to be used as one of their models and maidens and of course XS Power!
What traits do you like most about yourself? My eyes and legs.
What do you do for fun? Work out and train hard, beach, do things to my car, starting to go fishing again, and I’m wanting to start riding motorcross bikes! Hells yeah!
What would be your perfect date? Just the simple nice and fancy dinner and somewhere different instead of your usual movie date like going for a walk on the beach trying to get to know each other more to see if there’s a connection…
What do you wear to bed? Tank top and boy shorts.
Do you have any upcoming projects or events you have planned where your fans can meet you? Usually just come unexpected, but I will most likely be in Tampa sometime in August with Metal Mulisha for the Mayhem Festival and I’m also training for my first bikini fitness competition that is approx. about 12-14 weeks away that will be in St. Augustine or Tampa (not sure which show yet).
A great competitor and a great guy!! We will miss seeing him in the lanes, but we will enjoy getting to have him in the booths and spending more time having fun at the shows!!!

Phoenix Racing Inc. and Kurt Busch Inc. are getting ready for the always exciting and on the edge racing of Coca-Cola 600 at Lowe’s Motor Speedway. Kurt will be coming off of his Nationwide win at Richmond a couple of week ago. However, after a great performance, a late race accident at the Bojangle’s Southern 500 at Darlington knocked him out of a top 10 finish in last weeks Sprint Cup race. Kurt will be racing the #1 Phoenix Construction Services car in the Nationwide Series Saturday, and then jumping into the Sprint Cup Car on Sunday.
The team has gotten off to a slow start so far this season in the Sprint Cup Series, but have seen some big improvements from the start of the season. The Nationwide win at Richmond helped build momentum for Kurt has as he looks to come out of Charlotte with a good finish in both series this week.

Neil and his team has been dropping jaws and breaking windshields since they unveiled their new build at Spring Break Nationals this year! His new Bronco is not only large in size, but it is large on the meter also. The crew spent the last few weeks working on the Bronco nonstop to get it ready for SBN, and after SBN the work just continued on to make it even louder. One of the loudest and best sounding builds in the lanes! Great job to Neill and crew at Audio Extremes!
A day in the life of our favorite Baja driver and soon-to-be retired Fire Captain, Cris Cornette.
The Setup
1. BajaRack rack holds a ton (not literally, but close) of gear inside Zarges cases, plus MaxTrax sand ladders and a locking Hi-Lift mount.
2. Here’s a close-up look at the swingarm of the Demello rear bumper. The diagonal tubes serves as braces for the whole arm, and it easily holds the spare tire and wheel, plus two jerry cans. Note the retaining strap at lower left.
3. Once you discover how great a powered freezer/fridge is, you’ll retire your ice-cooled Igloo forever. A new-generation ARB unit keeps the steaks, eggs and beverages cool in Cris’ truck.
4. Aggressive front end is done courtesy of a rugged Demello Offroad bumper. A Warn winch wrapped in synthetic line sits inside the bumper for recovery duties, and two 6″ HID Soltek fog lights are ready to lead the way on a murky night.
5. An awning from Camping Labs makes for a pleasant space to sit, have a cup of coffee or dinner, or enjoy the last hours of a long, hot day on the trail.
6. Demello Offroad came through with a gorgeous piece of rear bumper fabrication. Built with signature Demello strength, the unit also looks just right on a Tacoma, neither too big nor too small. Dual recovery points and a 2″ hitch add to the utility. Cris sleeps in the back of the Tacoma, so he chose an Outdoorsman bed shell from A.R.E. which has been color-matched white. A 1.5″ rear adda-leaf kit from Icon Vehicle Dynamics keeps the rear end up under added weight.
7. Dual XS Power D5100 AGM batteries are found under the hood in a Columbia Overland battery box and are monitored full time with a custom computer monitored regulator.
8. It’s a major drag—literally–at best and a fatal problem at worst to be stuck and bogged down in the desert. This Tacoma has MaxTrax sand ladders on hand to help give the tires traction and get moving out of the dunes. Look for a test feature on these units in an upcoming issue of 4WD Toyota Owner.
Cris Cornette’s 2010 Tacoma is an awesome combination of brains and brawn. Brains because it’s been built strategically and with a vision—for supremely reliable, long range expedition work in the roughest of conditions. Brawn because it’s hard to kick sand in the face of Demello bumpers, BFG KM2 tires, dual batteries, Safari snorkel, Warn winch and more, and not expect to pay a price! Rhino Lining down the sides of the Tacoma keep rock and brush rash at bay, as well as look sharp. Demello rock sliders keep the door sills healthy when under rock attack. That’s an A.R.E. rear shell, by the way, complete with roof rails to hold the BajaRack and gear. 4.88 gearing and a rear ARB Air Locker also help with traction in tough terrain. Do you like the steel wheel look?

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Hairston Motorsports & Racing Brings Home Win & Sets another Record
Famoso, CA – The Hairston Motorsports & Racing team attended the West Coast Hot Rod Association (WCHRA) California Nationals, at the famous Famoso Raceway, this past weekend. Clint “The Milkman” Hairston of Bakersfield qualified 3rd with a 6.79 @ 230.94 mph struggling with traction problems on all three qualifiers. Randy Walker set the bar pretty high with a stout 6.281 pass for the #1 spot.
Dealing with extreme heat all weekend was a struggle but Jake Hairston, Crew Chief, and Doug Stewart, Co-Crew Chief/Clutch Specialist were able to make the right changes allowing Clint to take his Jerry Bickel built 2007 GTO to the final round against Randy Walker’s 1974 Chevrolet El Camino, the reigning 2009 WCHRA Pro Street Champion. Clint took out Jay Diedrich’s beautiful Pro Mod 57 Chevy in the Semi-Finals with a blistering 6.201 @ 240.32 mph setting up the final with Walker. Unfortunately, Walker was unable to restart his car after stalling in the water box giving Clint a single for the win. Jim Hairston, Team Owner, commented that “Clint asked Jake if he should just take the bulb and idle down the track, but Jake rifled back NO WAY, we want the record GO FOR IT.” Clint did not disappoint the crowd running a 6.183 @ 240.77 mph setting the new WCHRA National Speed record.
Hairston also holds the Pacific Street Car Association Pro Street National E.T. and MPH record that was set at Fontana on May 23, 2010 (6.084 @ 238.30 mph).
Hairston Motorsports & Racing would like to give special thanks to Lucas Oil for being our title sponsor this year and also thank our many other loyal sponsors; Pertronix, Duttweiler Performance, Precision Turbo, XS Power, Powermaster, Racepak, Hoosier Tire, K&N, Crower Clutches, Lenco, Comp Cams, Hogan Manifolds, Jesel, Strange, Motive Gear, Inland Empire Driveline, SCE Gaskets, Starside Design, Specialty Fasteners, Russell, Brodix and ARP for their continuing support. Special thanks go out again to Doug Stewart, Co-Crew Chief and Tom Esbri, Car Chief, for their amazing support for this team.
The Hairston team’s next event will take place at the Pacific Street Car Association West Coast Shootout in Las Vegas NV on September 18, 2010.
Here is an article from Lowrider on the D3100s. Lowrider
This year, we had the opportunity to try out XS Power Batteries’ latest sealed batteries. These are sealed batteries that were designed to provide the most crank and power for your ride. In order to test them out, we decided to put them through the most extreme cross-country conditions in Lowrider’s own “Aztec One.”
The operating plant received four of the D3100 batteries which power up the freightliner. The actual trailer received 2 batteries that serve to operate all of the trailer’s accessories. This offers great back-up support for the trailer, as it powers the generator that controls all of the interior trailer lights, as well as the rear lift gate. With more cranking amps than traditional wet 31-series batteries, these sealed batteries are a perfect crossover for the hopping Lowrider. Given the amazing performance of these batteries, we can’t wait to try them out on a hopper!
Specs
D3100
Weight Lbs. – 77.00
Weight Kgs. – 35.00
Length – 13.03 in
Height – 8.43 in
Width – 6.89 in
MAX Amps – 5000
Ah – 110
Quote from:Reed Turner/Aztec 1 pilot
“When the truck is parked and not operating, the batteries can hold a charge without needing to be jumped to start the rig. From the heights in the Mile High City to the extreme heat of the Arizona weather, these batteries have yet to fail, and have successfully turned Aztec on every time.
They have outperformed the old wet 31-series batteries well beyond our expectations.”
The Foddrill Motorsports SuperCar and driver Jerry Whelchel have placed FIRST in 4 rounds of the Lucas Offroad Racing Series, and with 6 rounds left, they plan on several more podium finishes.
The Foddrill Motorsports SuperCar is powered by the D680 and they have been more than pleased with its ability to take a beating and keep powering them to the checkered flag. “We really appreciate the advice you gave us and for getting our super buggy equipped with a battery that withstands, performs, and battles on the racetrack.”

Check out the May 2010 issue of Power Block Magazine, revealing an insane transformation Kevin Tetz and Ryan Shand (from the Spike TV’s Power Block show Trucks!) completed on a 1966 Chevy C-10. Kevin and Ryan took an old C-10 farm truck and turned it into an eye catching C-10 daily driver that anyone would be happy to drive! The C-10 project was completed with a new 283 small block under the hood, new exhaust, air ride system, and of course an XS Power battery was used to power it all! The battery of choice was the XS Power S925 outfitted with our Billet Aluminum Hold Down (XS Power part # 525) to finish the engine bay off with a clean polished look. At only 26lbs and over 2,000A of instantaneous cranking power and 550CA, the S925 has the juice and the appeal TRUCKS! was looking for to top off this project.
You can check out Power Block on Spike every Saturday and Sunday at 11:00 am (eastern), and you can watch the full episode on the C-10 build online at Spike.com. Make sure to check out Tony and Rick’s upcoming episode on the Red Sled featuring another top notch battery installation from XS Power!
Ready for your computer to show off some extra power; so much so you might call it “XS” Power? (Hyuk hyuk, see what I did there?)
Well look no further than these two new XS Power wallpapers, featuring Wrecked Magazine’s Project 350z super car! This beast is powered by an XS Power battery, so you know it flies.
Check out the wallpapers below, in both wide and standard screen definitions. (Ain’t we accommodating?)
When Wrecked Magazine needs some real power in one of their project cars, they look toward XS Power to get them all the juice they need.
That’s why when their Project 350z car needed some serious spark, they went with our S680, an absolute little monster of a battery. Check ‘em out doing the install here.
The car will be on display for the first time at Formula Drift Round 1 at the Universal Technical Institute booth.
After winning NMCA’s Bradenton, FL event, New Yorker Chris Rini has his sights squarely set on this weekend’s Mad Dawg opener held at NC’s Mooresville Dragway. Rini was very successful in Mad Dawg competition in 2009, winning both the season opener as well as the season finale.
XS Power and Mobile Electronics Competition Association (MECA) Team Up for the 2010 season. 2010 will feature more than 150 MECA events in the US. MECA has the only legitimate State Champions program in car audio sports, for our SPL and SQL competitors.

The Hairston Motorsports and Racing Jerry Bickel Race Cars built 2007 Pro Street GTO with a 377 CID twin turbo Duttweiler GM small block reset the Pro Street national ET and MPH record at the recently completed Pacific Street Car Association season opener at The Strip in Las Vegas. The new records are 6.237 @ 232.35 MPH. In addition to the record setting performance, the team went on to win the event, their 10th Pro Street title……..
Our buddies at Wrecked Magazine did a quick write-up showing us how they installed a S680 in their 350Z. Take a look. The 350Z as a whole is coming along quite nicely as well. There are plenty of other write-ups you can check out as well.
Thanks Wrecked Mag. Looking forward to your next issue!
Conductance testing is useful for determining the remaining life (or state of health, SOH) in a battery. Many battery distributors and service centers use conductance testing on a regular basis for this very purpose and warranty processing. However can conductance testing be used to establish a rating for a new battery? According to Midtronics, a leader in conductance testing, no! To quote their website,
“The Midtronics CCA value derived from conductance does not, however, determine the actual Cold Cranking Amps of the battery because that test includes a lengthy discharge of 30 seconds at a very high current rate.”
“The Midtronics CCA values are designed simply to mimic the initial starting characteristics of new batteries with a given CCA rating under the same operating conditions.
For example, if a battery that is rated at 600 CCA is measured at 500 CCA, it can be thought of as having similar starting characteristics of a new battery having a rating of 500 CCA if that battery is substituted with the test battery. It does not mean that the battery will pass a Cold Cranking Test at 500 CCA. It should also be remembered that the cranking power of all batteries increases with temperature and decreases with discharge and degradation.”
In talking with one of their engineers at the recent AAPEX show in Las Vegas and going through a demonstration of their product, it was clear that the Midtronics unit is not designed to set the CCA number, only to estimate it given a standard. You enter the factory rated CCA data into the Midtronics machine and the machine returns a CCA that represents the battery’s state of health.
CCE Hydraulics jumped to a another new world record for the second year claiming the highest hop for a single pump truck. At this point you have to ask yourself, “what in the world are they using to accomplish such an incredible feat?” And at which point we would point you in the direction of the answer.
In leu of our fancy new website, we have taken our arms of communication a bit further by implementing some of the more popular social media sites such as Facebook, Youtube and the ever growing Twitter. Stalkers welcome.
